Carriers close claims after the undisputed payment is issued, regardless if you agree with the settlement or not. They only move claims back into “reopened” if they’re presented with new information. The time you have to add onto (supplement) your claim varies by state. In Florida, the legislature just changed from 3 years to 18 months.

We can not stress enough to call before you file a claim. Many times, our advice has been not to file. Such cases could be: no coverage; a claim being too small to have on record; or a contractor insisting there is damage when there isn’t. If you have a claim worth filing, we make sure you report all damages from the start. Carriers consider late reporting an issue for the claim and for adding claimed items. We aim to limit conflict as much as possible, so don’t wait until you’re experiencing delays, difficulties and underpayments.
